Hollow Vessels and Negative Space
In her Hollow Vessels collection, Lillie thoughtfully explores the expressive potential of negative space, inviting reflection on emptiness, presence, and symbolic meaning. The sculptural forms encourage mindful engagement through their open structures and carefully balanced shapes.
Each vessel interacts dynamically with light, shadow, and touch, becoming an interactive piece that fosters deeper connection and contemplation.

Hollow Droplet
Medium: Earthenware, porcelain, raku fired
Dimensions: 8.25” x 7” x 1.5” inches (21.0 x 17.8 x 3.8 cm)
Inspired by the fluidity of water and the organic symmetry of droplets in motion, Hollow Droplet explores negative space and sculptural balance. The form is both contained and open, inviting light to pass through while maintaining a grounded presence. The raku firing process enhances the interplay of surface and void, with glazes pooling in unpredictable ways, evoking the reflective shimmer of water. The piece’s tactile smoothness contrasts with the raw, unglazed edges, reinforcing the duality of softness and structure, permanence and impermanence. This work continues my investigation into sculptural vessels that invite touch and contemplation, reflecting my broader interest in ceramic forms as sensory and interactive objects.

Father’s Day
Medium: Earthenware, Bmix with grog, raku fired
Dimensions: 12" x 12" x 2.5" inches (30.5 x 30.5 x 6.3 cm)
This piece continues my exploration of negative space as a vessel for meaning, much like Hollow Droplet, but here, the void is filled with a sculpted totem of familial roots and growing love. Inspired by the bond between parent and child, the central form intertwines within the open circle, symbolizing both protection and evolution. The raku firing process further enhances the piece’s themes of transformation and permanence, as the flames unpredictably shape the surface, much like the evolving nature of family ties. This work reflects my broader interest in creating sculptural vessels that honor human connection through both form and material.
